About

I'm a product and design advisor to startups with 15 years operating experience. Most recently I helped create Uber Eats, where I was Sr Director of Product Design from 2014–2020, built the Eats design team from zero to 50+, and helped build the Eats business from zero to $25B in annual bookings. Previously, I spent time as an entrepreneur in residence at GV, and was an early designer on Google Maps where I helped create Street View.

Sr Director of Product Design, Uber Eats

I joined to help get Uber into new businesses beyond ridesharing, was part of the founding team of Uber Eats, and helped build it into the largest food delivery app outside China. As the head of design for Eats, I built and led an all-star design org of about 60 product designers, researchers, and UX writers, working across all sides of the Eats marketplace (eater, restaurant, and courier).

Staff User Experience Designer

Over 9 years, I was the founding designer of Street View, led design on some early "smart assistant" efforts like Google Now and Schemer, and designed key parts of Google Earth and Google Maps. I was also the first designer on the self-driving car project (now Waymo). I was mostly an IC but spent some time people-managing as well.

I programmed much of the scripting and modding system for Sid Meier's Civilization IV, using C++ and Python. I also designed some maps for the game—thinking about how to generate landforms, distribute resources, and choose starting positions to ensure fun and balanced gameplay.
