Dr Dominic Pimenta qualified from University College London MBBS with Distinction in all Clinical Phases and a first class iBSc in Surgical Sciences. His clinical career included rotations in Oxford and London before entering Cardiology specialist training in 2016. In medicine, he has published on a variety of cardiology topics, and current interests include clinical informatics, artificial intelligence in clinical practice and cardiac arrest prognostication. As a junior doctor he co-authored two medical student textbooks, the Easy Guide to OSCE series. Outside of medicine, Dr Dominic Pimenta is an accomplished author and writer, his first book PARTS available on Amazon now, as well as freelance writing work for the Huffington Post, Independent and pieces in the Guardian and New Statesman. He has a substantial social media presence with 29K followers on Twitter. In March 2020, having advocated against the government delay of lockdown measures, Dr Dominic Pimenta co-founded HEROES, helpthemhelpus.co.uk, a charity for the protection of frontline NHS workers in response to the pandemic, stepping into the Chief Executive Officer role, raising £1.1m to date, delivering over 500,000 units of services, food, and PPE to NHS staff and overseeing the formation of the company and attaining charity status, as well as making major partnerships with Candy Kittens, Percy's Biscuits, Spotify, Rolls Royce and others. Working with innovators, engineers, contractors and logistics experts, Dr Dominic Pimenta co-founded SHIELD, a novel personal protective equipment umbrella organisation to create and source sustainable and re-useable PPE and is a member of the board. Dr Dominic Pimenta holds MRCP from the Royal College of Physicians in London and a qualification in Machine Learning from Stanford University. In 2020 Dr Dominic Pimenta gave a guest lecture at Google HQ in London entitled "My experience of technology as a frontline clinician". In September 2020 Dr Pimenta published an account of his time during the pandemic, Duty of Care, which reached no. 13 in the UK Sunday Times Bestsellers' list and no. 29 in the UK Kindle Chart. In response to the widespread misinformation and general polarisation of society Dr Dominic Pimenta founded the Modern Society Initiative as founding executive director in September 2020, and has published extensively on COVID and public policy, as well as being a member of the Covid Action Group based in the US. Dr Dominic Pimenta now works as the lead research physician at the Richmond Research Institute, working on innovative research in multiple clinical areas (COVID, cardiac health, ethnic and sex differences in drug trials, machine learning in clinical healthcare settings)
