Tech, Education, Startups, D&I // Head of Programme @ Academy | Fellow @ Included VC | Teacher Trainer @ Code Your Future | Software Engineering Instructor @ Black Codher

How does this work?

I like challenging the status quo, making things happen and empowering others - mostly at the intersections of tech, education, startups and D&I. My whole career, I've been ignoring some advice I was given: "Don't reinvent the wheel." Here's the problem: there is no functioning wheel. Society is systemically failing to address unequal opportunity and technological upheaval. That's why I try to challenge the status quo, make things happen, and empower others. In tech and startups: - Programme Lead at Academy (closing a seed round), building a new generation of leaders in technology to represent society - inaugural Fellow at Included VC, building a more diverse future for venture capital - previously Software Engineering Coach at WhiteHat (backed by Index Ventures), training early-career software engineers at Starling Bank, Improbable and Publicis Sapient In education and D&I: - Teacher Trainer at Code Your Future, supporting refugees and asylum seekers into tech by training the volunteers who teach them - Coding Instructor at Black Codher, supporting Black women into tech by teaching them in back-end software development and database technologies - mentor and volunteer at Black Valley, Coders of Colour and The Entrepreneurial Refugee Network, increasing access to tech and startups from underrepresented communities But I know that these problems aren't solved by isolated individuals. We need to work together to find solutions that work for everyone. If you're challenging the status quo, making things happen and empowering others - I'd love to hear from you!
