Internet Consultant

Being self-employed has taught me a lot about business and the technology industry. As an Internet Consultant, I managed servers and networks, built websites, performed website maintenance, for clients both big and small. By deploying a wide range of technology I became successful among a select group of clients, all of whom I am still with today.

Orinda Academy

Systems Administrator

My first on the job system administrator experience presented many challenges to me. Managing a network built on cheap off the shelf hardware and components while trying to have 150 teenagers, each of which brings a laptop, iPhone and handheld gaming device to school every day is a nightmare. Using a combination of open source routers (Smoothwall and pfSense) and maximizing hardware usage let me reach the goal of perfect uptime for a full school year. In addition, I hardened the network against outside attacks and inside attacks from students trying to change grades or bypass mandatory internet filtering. Finally, this provided me my first hands on Active/Open Directory experience and client management techniques.
