How does this work?
About

I've worked with Rails for more than a decade, starting with version 2.3 in 2009. Since then, I've built dozens of applications ranging from custom internal tooling to consumer services serving more than a million users. My latest role at Dwell has APIs serving iOS and Android apps, cross-platform subscription management (Stripe, Apple App Store, Google Play Store), and a content management system to slice and dice the more than 1,100 hours of audio we serve in the app. I've worked with video for more than 15 years - trained with a broadcast background and have seen generational shifts from analog to digital, and standard definition to high definition and beyond. I got into web video before YouTube even launched, and started live streaming sporting events in 2011, well before it was mainstream. We were pleased to share this expertise with assorted clients in 2020 to help their events run smoothly when the entertainment and conference space was thrust into holding virtual events. In my free time, I love to travel the world with my wife – our favorite country is Iceland, and our favorite place on earth is Gili Lankanfushi in the Maldives, where we went for our honeymoon and returned recently for our five-year wedding anniversary. We're also fans of the Kansas City Chiefs (season ticket members), and quiet chill days at the house with our yellow lab Dillon. I thrive in lean environments, wearing whichever hat necessary to get the job done, and done right.

Senior Software Engineer

Little Lea builds and manages individual companies in the faith tech space, the two that I’ve worked on thus far are Lightstock, a curated stock media marketplace, and Dwell, a Bible listening app available on iOS and Android. Dwell was built from the ground up! My responsibilities have included cross-platform subscription management, reporting, infrastructure, security, an HLS audio delivery API, and rebuilding the content management system to meet current business needs and future product offerings. The app serves more than 100,000 paying subscribers with a multi-million dollar ARR. Lightstock was a legacy service that mostly needed maintenance, DDoS attack mitigation, and the occasional feature add. It was sold to Igniter Media in 2020.

Owner / Solutions Architect

I provide consulting and custom web, app, and video solutions through my professional entity Kaha Digital. With more than a decade of experience in web video, live streaming, software development, and hosting infrastructure, I've built experiences supporting tens of thousands of end users, and consulted for dozens of clients' unique business needs. Notable projects: - Set up fault-tolerant live streaming pipelines to distribute content to tens of thousands of viewers around the globe, with recorded peaks of 22 Gbps but the capacity to handle virtually any size. - Designed and managed the hosting infrastructure for virtual event platforms, minimizing costs while still deploying across multiple availability zones to maintain critical levels of reliability in the event of a datacenter or network outage. - Playback: a custom-built, secure, and fault-tolerant judge's review system that has since served multiple purposes including backstage playback and real-time video asset catalog for feature editors - Corona: an internal asset and personnel management tool, powering call sheets and tracking thousands of videos from ingestion to transcoding per event - OTT Apple TV and Roku apps for One Community Church and USASF, and the supporting web APIs
