Head of Community Engagement, TEDx

As employee #3 that grew to a team of 15, I saw events go from 800 to over 9000 in 156 countries. With that comes the understanding and expertise of knowing how to build and scale a global community on a local level for a brand. I built out the TEDx voice internally and externally - on social platforms, and community groups - and codify platform innovations into real, usable resources and products. I led the redesign of the TEDx site from the TEDx side, working with writers and product designers to present a UX that is clear and makes sense for a growing global community. I worked with IDEO to turn a 20-page out of date toolkit into a 150 page comprehensive and clearly structured manual on how to organize a TEDx event that includes expertise from TED staff and TEDx community members. We then translated the manual for better understanding across borders. I brought the Tumblr, Giphy and Tapestry relationships to TED and lead the editorial strategy of TEDx on Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Instagram and the website. I built the TEDx Tumblr from the ground up to 80,000 followers and Twitter followers from 1,000 to 80,000 I built internal editorial calendars + execute internal communications strategy targeted to TEDx organizers. I oversaw how the TEDx/TED brand -- logo, positioning with HQ, event format and more -- was executed by TEDx event organizers around the world. I reviewed workflows and created resources -- 1-sheets, website pages, automatic emails and more to fill in information and process gaps. I've also spoken and taught communities around the world about community and TEDx -- I've presented TEDx to regional TEDx workshops in Portugal and Spain, at TEDx Workshops at TED conferences, weekly Google Hangouts on various topics for our global community and led workshops on storytelling, youth and social media at our TEDxSummit in Qatar.

I worked with fashion editors, writers and bloggers from Vogue, Vanity Fair, Lucky, Glamour and, among others, and got a Doyle & Doyle bracelet placed on the cover of Vogue. From concept to execution, I created the e-commerce website -- that meant concept development, planning, wireframing, managing programmers and designers, product design and implementation. They had been working on a custom solution for over a year, an I conceived and executed an out of the box solution that met their needs within 6 months. Behind the scenes of the website, I directed ppc, sem and seo initiatives and tracked it all with Google Analytics. I found we were getting some significant hits from independent and magazine bloggers and created and fostered relationships with them. (Before, the pr had been largely focused on print placement.) I directed, developed and executed website editorial and design content, including weekly emails, which I called "Style Gems". My editorial strategy is still being executed on the website and emails. Brand building initiatives I ran included in-store events and diffusion jewelry line (Heirloom by Doyle & Doyle) development and marketing.
